MAINE FIDDLE CAMP HARMONICA IN JUNE!!
What?? harmonica in June?? You betcha! Here are some words from long time Maine Fiddle Camp staff member, John Pranio:
Hi folks! This June, (for the first weekend and week ) I will be offering full blown classes on harmonica. We’ll learn to understand the difference between playing blues harmonica (improvisational) and straight harmonica (folk, country), and cover the basics so you can pursue this simple instrument on your own with confidence. If you have a harmonica bring it ( key of C preferred). If you need one, I’ll have some $12.00 harmonicas for sale. Contact John Pranio ( [email protected]) with any questions.

Maine Fiddle Camp Review. By Julie G. (For more information on the camp see www.mainefiddlecamp.org)
Last year I applied for a grant to learn how to play Cape Breton piano. I found a camp that offered Cape Breton piano that was (slightly) closer than Cape Breton: Maine Fiddle Camp. With some skepticism, due to the lengthy drive through just about every trafficky large metropolitan area the East Coast has to offer, plus concerns about the vague information on how you get into the class you want, I packed my fiddle, accordion, and digital piano into the car and headed North. Two days later I was setting up my tent in a pine forest next to a lake in Maine. Other campers were nearby and cheerfully offered to help me, as if this was the most entertaining thing a person could possibly do. This is Maine Fiddle Camp in a nutshell: everyone is really happy all the time about everything.
A WORD FROM A MAINE FIDDLE CAMPER FROM SLOVAKIA
(Some of you may remember Barbora from last year.. When I wrote the piece in the last newsletter about the “international aspect” of MFC, I asked Barbora to comment. This came to me late but it’s a GREAT story!!!…. – bill )

I grew up under the mountains in Slovakia, a tiny country in Central Europe, where I attend our only liberal arts college – BISLA. Two years ago, I got the opportunity to study at Marlboro College, VT for one semester. I fell in love with that place immediately. I felt like people in New England knew how to enjoy every single moment in life and music was its proof. When I was back home, I knew that not coming back was not an option and so I found myself buying flight tickets to Boston half a year later.
