    Helen Newell started playing violin at the age of three, and has spent every year of her life at Maine Fiddle Camp, including in utero! Helen grew up playing both folk and classical fiddle, performing in notable orchestras and chamber groups, as well as playing gigs and contra dances with the Newell Family Band and her contra dance band, Volution. Helen is currently attending Berklee College of Music, studying jazz, folk, and classical violin. Helen also has a private violin studio and is also a personal trainer and nutrition coach.

Hello youth beginner fiddlers!! Welcome to the Eagles Nest! My name is Helen and I’ll be your teacher this weekend! I have a couple of questions I want you to answer by clicking on the link below this video. This will help give me an idea of who’s going to be attending the workshops! This weekend is going to be super fun! We will be learning some basic tunes and solidifying and learning some basic fiddle stuff like posture.

NOTE TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS/KIDS: do you or does your child have tapes on their violin fingerboard and a shoulder rest? If not, please contact me (my email is helennewell.com@gmail.com) and we can set up a time to talk about how to get one for you before camp starts!
